Catching the last few hours of our summer, BC Ski Team Women’s Fernie dryland camp from Aug 22nd to Aug 31st 2012
“After two camps in Mt. Hood, Oregon we find ourselves in Fernie, BC for the completion of our 2012 summer training. With a few new members this year, we spent the first couple of mornings in Fernie learning our new weight lifting program, including ‘cleans’, squats and upper body routines. In the afternoons we hit the bikes, enduring a series of sprints and long rides up to about 44 kilometers. All the fantastic weather has allowed us to get outside for field workouts consisting of sprinting on the track and a series of jumps.
On Monday afternoon, we drove up to Tie Lake near Fernie to enjoy a relaxing evening and some competitive tubing and water skiing. The next day we crossed the border to Alberta where we stopped in Pincher Creek, the home town of Sarah Freeman. We enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch under the sun and then went on a horseback ride around the Freeman ranch.
With just a couple of days left, we will continue to push our limits in preparation for the upcoming on-hill camp in Chile. We’re excited to go to South America for a three week training camp beginning mid-September.
Huge THANK YOU to Mike Delich with Fernie Lodging Company for the awesome accommodation, the Sombrowski family for allowing us to come to their cabin on the lake, the MacLachlan for the lovely dinner at the lake and the Freeman family for letting us borrow their ranch for the day.”
Sincerely,
BC women’s training group in Fernie, 2012
