Emma King cracks top-10 in Nor-Am Cup downhill at Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC | BC Alpine Ski Association

Photo from BC Alpine website: www.bcalpine.comThe hard work paid off Wednesday for BC Team's Emma King of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club when she finished 9th in a Nor-Am Cup downhill with a time of one minute, 7.93 seconds. King was the 3rd fastest Canadian in the race, and the 5th junior.

"We are all pretty happy for Emma today", said her coach JP Daigneault. "She has been really cranking up her professionalism in terms of her daily routine, approach to training (systematic), and she is beginning to trust herself. Once an athlete understands that they are responsible for, and in charge of their own success, really interesting stuff starts to happen on race day. The downhill at Mont-Sainte-Anne is short, but has a lot of tricky spots that can surprise racers. Emma skied with a lot of confidence and 'bossed' the course from top to bottom. It’s great to see her just a little over one second away (1.17) from Julia Ford of the U.S. Ski Team who is on her way to compete in Sochi. The weather here has been race-perfect and the snow conditions absolutely amazing for racing."

"I was confident going into today's race and executed my plan, which is what I have been working on," said King. "The conditions on the course were amazing and Paul Lavoie did a fantastic job on our skis. I ended up in 9th position, only a second and a bit off the pace. I am very happy that my hard work is paying off."

King's teammate Charley Field finished 16th today, but was not satisfied with her performance.

"The hill is great, the conditions are awesome and it was anybody’s race", said Field. "I just didn't step up to the challenge and fell short of what I wanted to accomplish."

On the men's side, BC's best result came from Whistler's Broderick Thompson who claimed 11th spot.

Stay tuned for super-G tomorrow (Thursday).  Charley (Field) will be gunning hard, and it will be Alix’s (Wells) first SG race in a long time!
