Dreadnaught Ski Racing FIS National Downhill Camp, Downhill and Super-G Races and "Lite ‘em Up on Main" Night Slalom – Kimberley, January 28 – Feb 5, 2019
FIS athletes from across Canada were joined by international competitors from USA, Japan, Australia and Austria at Kimberley Alpine Resort to take part in the 2019 Dreadnaught Ski Racing FIS National Downhill Camp consisting of 3 days of serious speed training. For many it was their first experience on one of the best downhill tracks in British Columbia. In all 34 ladies and 49 men took advantage of this amazing and popular opportunity to hone their speed skills.
When the training camp wrapped up and everyone was 'up to speed', participants switched into race mode for the FIS Dreadnaught men’s and ladies’ night slalom, super-G, and downhill races. An impressive international field of 38 ladies and 55 men showed up for the downhill races, and even more for the super-G and the fan-favourite night slalom under the lights on "Main". Huge thanks again this year to the annual sponsor, Sandor Rentals, for making the night slalom a possibility!
This 10-day speed series was a herculean task for race organizers and Mother Nature was not completely cooperative. One day was lost to a significant snow event, but a proactive ROC made a good call by stacking 2 training runs the day before, allowing all the races to be completed during the series. It was thanks to a lot of hard work by all the athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers that the whole event was completed successfully. The Technical Delegate, Darrel MacLachlan, said it was an excellent venue.
