BC Team’s Unterberger 5th & top junior; Seger 7th, Quebec FIS Giant Slalom

FIS Race – Men's Giant Slalom

BC Team athlete Dominic Unterberger from the Revelstoke Ski Club earned top-junior honours with a 5th place finish overall in a Quebec FIS GS Thursday. Teammate Brodie Seger of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club wasn't far behind in 7th.

"I am pretty happy with today", said Unterberger. "I had a good approach and put down two solid runs. Definitely going to take some confidence out of today and carry that through the rest of the weekend and the remainder of the season"

"Good point results for Dom (Unterberger) and Brodie (Seger) today." said men's coach Nick Cooper. "Blake (Ramsden) also put himself in a good spot, but unfortunately fell second run. All the guys are starting to figure out their approach on race day, and results are starting to come. We have an awesome hill and snow here in Bromont, so I am looking forward to the next three days of racing."

Field wraps up Quebec Nor-Am Cup Series with 5th place in Super Combined

"With a great set by our coach JP, I knew I could bring some confidence into my slalom skiing. I skied one of my best slalom runs in competition and am very happy that it reflected in my overall combined result of fifth place. I am excited now to get home and bring this momentum into the next series of races."

Thompson, Field (WMSC/BCST) race to top-10 finishes in Quebec Nor-Ams

Thursday’s Nor-Am Cup schedule at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec featured a super-G race for both men and women, as well as a super combined (super-G plus one slalom run) for the men. BC Ski Team’s Broderick Thompson (WMSC) took a very respectable 12th place finish in the super-G and added it to a stellar 5th place result in the slalom run to complete the super combined race in 5th position overall in a total of two minutes, 5.02 seconds.

“I was super happy with my super-G run this morning although I know I can be faster”, said Thompson. “Going into the slalom portion of the super-combined I had the mentality to go as hard as I could, while skiing smart in some tricky sections. I am really happy with my 5th place finish in the super-combined, as well as being top junior. 5th is my best Nor-Am finish to-date!”

“Speed has been going really well this season for Brod”, said men’s coach Nick Cooper. “He still has more in the tank, but it was a solid super-G run. It was really great to see him show everyone the slalom skiing we have seen all year in training, and throw down on a tricky set. It's awesome to see him get his second super-combined junior win of this season."

Charley Field (WMSC) of the women's BC Ski Team promised to step it up today and she did just that. It was Field's turn to take her place in the top-10, completing the women's super-G in 7th position in 1:15.15.

"I am really happy about how everything turned out today", said Field. "I executed my game plan by staying solid on my outside ski and charging like crazy. The last couple weeks I have not been feeling like myself, so it was nice to finally lay down a solid run."

“It was great to see Charley get out of her own way today and punch one in there,” said women’s coach JP Daigneault. “This was her best-ever result in super-G, and we were all psyched to finally see her come back to the top of the hill to gather her stuff, all smiles and positive attitude!”

Tomorrow they'll switch it around and run a super-G for both genders and a super combined for the girls. Follow the action on LIVE TIMING
