FIS Athletes Invited to Fall Camp 2012 in La Parva and Valle Nevado, Chile

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club FIS team will be training this fall in La Parva and Valle Nevado, Chile, and would like to extend an invitation to all FIS aged athletes in BC as we know that not all clubs can support the numbers it takes to make these fall training camps happen.

If you are in need of extra training during the fall to achieve your high performance goals, we would be happy to have you join us for this ski camp.  There are 13 days of skiing planned (SL, GS & SG/DH), with up to 2 sessions per day, 1 gate training and 1 free ski session. There will be 1 day off to switch resorts, and spend in Santiago.  We will also be taking a 2 day break from the high altitude at the end of the camp to visit the ocean town of Vina Del Mar to recover from the training at altitude, and to experience a little bit of the country we travelled so far to get to.

Camp dates: Sept. 20th – Oct. 8th

BC Alpine Announces 2012/2013 Women’s BC Ski Team Training Group

Preparations have begun for the 2012/2013 season and BC Alpine is pleased to introduce this year’s BC Ski Team Men's and Women'sTraining Groups.

Women’s Team Head Coach Gregor Druzina revealed this week that he will begin the season with a Training Group of seven girls who hope to be named to the 2012/13 BC Ski Team when it is officially announced in November.

Charley Field (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), Emma King (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), Alix Wells (Prince George Ski Club) and Hallie MacLachlan (Fernie Alpine Ski Team) are entering their second season with the BC Team and will be joined by Sarah Freeman (Fernie Alpine Ski Team) and Sarah Elliot (Big White Racers) who have also been named to Alpine Canada’s Prospect Group. “We are very excited to have the opportunity to run Elliot and Freeman with our younger athletes this year,” said Druzina. “We are also thrilled to welcome Stephanie Gartner of the Fernie Alpine Ski Team to her first season with the BC Ski Team Training Group.”

Joining Druzina again this year is Assistant Coach and Multimark extraordinaire, Aaron Speden. Also on board for another season is Strength and Conditioning Coach Andrew Lambert. “The BC Ski Team coaches and support staff are committed to running a high level program in all the disciplines and all aspects of dryland training,” said Head Coach Druzina. “Some of the girls will be trying to win at Nor-Am Cup speed events, while a younger group will be learning from their more experienced teammates and working to be the top young skiers in the country.”

Jocelyn Ramsden (1993) and Kailee Darlington (1994) from the Whistler Mountain Ski Club made the decision at the end of the 2012/13 season to retire from the BC Ski Team in order to attend full-time school and pursue their academic goals. Sofi Leroux (1994), also of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, will take advantage of a fantastic opportunity to go to school in Sun Valley, USA where she will study and continue ski racing. We are confident all three ladies will enjoy great success as they venture down these new and exciting paths in life!

"This group of women, who are all of Junior age, are some of the most talented athletes we've ever had on our Women’s BC Ski Team," said BC Alpine's CEO Bruce Goldsmid.  "The coaches and athletes have set some lofty goals for the coming season to help them stay focused and on-task. The team will be striving for Nor-Am and U18 National Championship podiums. Now the real work begins!"

BC Alpine Pleased to Announce 2012/13 Men’s BC Ski Team Training Group

Men's BC Ski Team Head Coach Brandon Dyksterhouse and Assistant Coach Jonathan Hadley are extremely excited about next year's BC Team and the eight athletes recently named to the Men’s Training Group.

This year’s squad will see the return of six men from the 2011/2012 season and will be led by Tyler Werry (Fernie Alpine Ski Team) and Ford Swette (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), who have also been identified as part of Alpine Canada's Prospect Group.

Also back for another season are Broderick Thompson (Whistler Mountain Ski Club), Roger Carry (Fernie Alpine Ski Team), Martin Grasic (Windermere Valley Ski Club) and Brodie Seger (Whistler Mountain Ski Club).  The coaches are happy to announce the addition of two new guys to the Training Group: Patrick Carry of the Fernie Alpine Ski Team (younger brother of Roger Carry) and Blake Ramsden of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.

“Our top athletes will be competing for Nor-Am titles and World Junior Championship medals, while providing the leadership for our younger athletes who will be scratching the surface in Nor-Am competition,” said Dyksterhouse. “There is so much young talent and positive energy on this team that I can't wait to see what the future holds for our athletes.”

After three seasons with the BC Ski Team and two season-ending knee injuries, Whistler’s Ben MacLean has decided to pursue higher education.  We wish him well and thank him for the leadership he has provided over the years.

We would also like to congratulate Dominic Unterberger of the Revelstoke Ski Club for earning a chance to participate in the BC Team Training Group summer and fall training program.

“A great success story from last season is Whistler’s Conrad Pridy (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) who earned himself a spot on the Canadian Alpine Ski Team,” said BC Alpine CEO Bruce Goldsmid.  “He had one last shot at the Garmish World Cup Downhill and he delivered! Starting 50th and cutting his number in half gave him enough World Cup points to be selected to the national team – almost unheard-of – congratulations Conrad!”
