FIS Females…

Have you raced in FIS for 1 or more seasons?

If you answer YES -We want you at GFF 2020!

FIS is where our ski racing careers begin and we want you to share your experiences and skiing abilities with our younger GFF skiers as Junior GFF leaders.

What is in it for you, you ask?

Good question!

Awesome training environments, feedback from a World Cup and FIS- experienced coaching staff and the chance to be the change and show younger GFF skiers that ski racing is an amazing sport, full of awesome experiences, challenges and passion.

It is also a chance to establish a community for our FIS-experienced ski racers, through our provincial and National team, University/College and club FIS level.

Each one of you has worked hard for your experiences and we want to give you a chance to train hard, and share your experiences and passion for the sport with other young female.

If this resonates with you, please check that you are interested in being a Junior Leader in the registration questionnaire and we will provide you with more information!

Sincerely,

The super stoked GFF Crew

Big White Ski Club hosts Okanagan racers at annual U12 Invitational event

Stellar Weekend at Big White U12 Invitational

Photo from BC Alpine website: www.bcalpine.comRacers from Apex, Silverstar, Revelstoke and Big White had a spectacular weekend at Big White Ski Club’s annual U12 Invitational. The weekend featured race training on Friday followed by a giant slalom race on Saturday and a slalom race on Sunday. Day 1 the GS course was fast and fun despite the 10 cm’s of fresh snow throughout the morning. A big shout out to the volunteers who kept the course running great all day. The sun came out in full force for Day 2’s slalom competition. The races were run back-to-back and the day went off without a hitch. Racers flew down lower Paradise, the first course set with panels and the second with stubbies. Racers were back at the club cabin in record time for Shane’s famous pulled pork BBQ. Thank you to the coaches, volunteers, Big White Ski Resort and all of the ski club sponsors who together made the event a huge success.

Girls Fast Forward 2020 registration opens on International Women’s Day

Alexander, Jordan, Renzoni selected to Canada’s FIS Alpine World Juniors team

Three BC athletes have been selected to represent Canada at the 2020 FIS Alpine World Junior Championships in Narvik, Norway, from March 5th – 14th. Current Canadian Team Member Kyle Alexander and current BC Team Member Asher Jordan were both selected for their second consecutive year after attending last year's Championships in Val di Fassa, Italy. Current BCST member Ella Renzoni was selected for her first time.

Ella Renzoni, who will be making her World Junior Championship debut said, “I am super excited to race in Norway and to see where I stack up against the top juniors in the world.” Renzoni is currently the top-ranked Canadian downhiller coming into the competition, and has collected three top-ten finishes in Nor-Am Cup races this year. Renzoni has also stood on the podium four times this year in races across Canada.

Asher Jordan has had a spectacular season to date with six Nor-Am top-five finishes and three podium performances that included a win in Copper Mountain this past November. Jordan also made his World Cup debut this season, getting starts in Adelboden, Kitzbuehel, and Schladming. Kyle Alexander finished 16th in last year's World Junior Championship Downhill and was seen as a strong threat to contend for a medal this year. Asher suffered a torn ACL in last month's Nor-Am parallel slalom and Kyle Alexander recently suffered a concussion; both will be unable to attend.

BC Ski Team Head Coach Nick Cooper will also be heading to Norway, taking on the role of Men's Team Head Coach for the Canadian world juniors team. Cooper had this to say about the group of athletes attending, “This team announcement is a little bittersweet. I’m very proud of everything this group has accomplished to get to this point but it’s extremely disappointing to not have Asher and Kyle there”.  Athletes travelled to Norway on March 2nd in preparation for competition beginning March 7th with the men's and women's downhill.

The full list of racers who will compete for Canada is:

Perfect conditions make happy racers at Teck U14 GS/SL event on Cypress Mtn

Photo from BC Alpine website: www.bcalpine.com
EventU14 Teck Coast Zone Race hosted by Cypress Ski Club
Dates: February 29 to March 1, 2020
Location: Cypress Mountain on Rainbow run
Hill Conditions: Fresh groomed, hard packed both days
Weather Conditions: Cold, sunshine on Saturday, mix of sun and clouds on Sunday
Race Structure: Two-run combined time slalom on Saturday; two-run combined time giant slalom on Sunday

The Coast Zone U14 racers gave a strong showing at Cypress Mountain this past week-end. They performed on "Rainbow" which is a challenging course and provided good viewing for parents, family members and the public. We are grateful to Cypress Mountain for allowing us to produce a good quality race in a prime spot. Mother Nature was kind to us and we had excellent winter snow conditions for both days of racing. Volunteers from all clubs chipped in and made this race a huge success. Without our dedicated volunteers these events would not be possible. ~ Report submitted by Michele LouxPhoto from BC Alpine website: www.bcalpine.com
