National titles were on the line in Sun Peaks April 11-14 as 100 Masters athletes from BC, Alberta, Ontario, and the USA competed in super-G, giant slalom and slalom races for male and female athletes born before 1983.
In addition to the individual awards in 13 age categories ranging from 19+ to 80+, the coveted Dave Murray National Masters Cup is awarded annually to the provincial team which scored the most points from participants who finished in the top 5 spots in each of the age categories. Team BC was comprised of 38 athletes; more than last year, but it lacked in women and men in the younger age classes.
Team BC captured the National Championships, even though many top athletes were missing, winning total of 54 medals; 23 of which were gold.
With so many BC participants scoring at least one point towards the competitive provincial team challenge, Team BC wrestled the Dave Murray National Masters Cup away from Team Ontario with a score of 2,100 points against 1,920 points. Team Alberta came third with 1,650 points.
