Janyk Captures Europa Cup GS Title

Canadian Alpine Ski Team racer Britt Janyk has become the first Canadian woman in eight years to win an overall title on the Europa Cup circuit. Victories at Abatone, Italy and St. Sebastien, Austria, and a third place podium finish helped the Whistler, B.C. native capture the overall giant slalom title. “This gives me a lot of confidence that I will be able to take with me into World Cup next season,” Janyk, 21, said Monday at Whistler where she is preparing to race all four disciplines at the Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships over the next week. “It shows that I'm on top of the European circuit – and there are a lot of World Cup girls who race there.”

Into Thin Air Part 2 – Big White Movie Unveiled

Big White and the Kelowna Ski Club's version of “Into Thin Air” was unexpectedly unveiled last weekend. A total of 325 Alcan Nancy Greene Ski League particpants (this may be a record) raced in thick fog, freezing rain, snow and pretty much most other winter conditions. With a breakdown in the timing software from the cold and wet weather, entries were done manually for all E1 and E2 children. A “Big” Congrats to the Big White Ski Club for enduring the weekend, and giving all those kids a memorable experience.

Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA) announced today that Kerry Moynihan has been relieved of his duties as President effective March 5. The decision was made by the ACA Board of Directors and was announced by Chairman Renaud Beauchesne.

ACA will assemble a selection committee and plans to hire a new President over the next two to three months.

In the interim, direction will be provided by the ACA executive committee, Chairman Beauchesne, Vice-Chairman John Read and the ACA management team. “Kerry put in a tremendous amount of work over the last years and was committed to the success of the organization,” said Beauchesne. “We thank him for his efforts.” “Our Board of Directors is committed to not having this change impact our teams or our stakeholders,” Beauchesne added.
