Forsyth Slips to Third, Janyk Scoops Silver

In a surprising twist of events, Quebec's Genivieve Simard and Nanaimo's Allison Forsyth swapped places after the second run giving Simard the win in 1:28.25 in Friday's Pontiac GMC Cup National Championships Women's Slalom. After the first run Forsyth was 1st and Simard 3rd. However, at the end of the day, Forsyth had to settle for third place in 1:29.13 behind Whistler's Britt Janyk who fought hard and held on to second place in a two-run combined time of 1:29.09. Complete results will be posted as they become available. Race organizers hope to get a downhill training run Saturday, weather permitting. A men's and women's super g will be run in the event of a downhill training cancellation tomorrow.

Haaheim on the Mend Still Talking a Mile a Minute

Kelowna Ski Club Program Director, Trevor Haaheim is recovering at Vancouver General Hospital following vascular surgery March 4th to improve the circulation in his left leg. Unfortunately on Thursday March 7th, the very day he was meant to be discharged, Trevor was rushed into emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction. With eighty staples in his stomach from the emergency surgery, morphine and a feeding tube Haaheim looked a little worse for wear over the weekend and earlier this week.

However, as of Wednesday, Trevor is much improved as he is no longer on morphine and while he is not eating solid foods he is able to have tea, juices and the 'standard hospital issue' custard which as you can imagine wasn't too appetizing!

Trevor, his wife Kerry, daughter Sally and Mom Lois are hopeful that he will be released by the end of the week. Things are looking brighter as Trevor is still talking up a storm!

Whistler Organizers Ready for Tomorrow

Poor conditions forced cancellation of training for the men's and women's downhill for the third consecutive day at the Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships.

Race organizers hope to get a mandatory training run completed on Thursday. Should conditions not permit the downhill to be run, the men will race slalom beginning at approximately 10 a.m.

Whistler has been blanketed in more than 50 centimetres of snow this week. Groomers and race volunteers have been packing the course every night, but temperatures hovering around 0 degrees C have not been cold enough to keep the race course firm enough to handle downhill race speeds of 120 km/h.
