In a come from behind win in the second run, Whistler's Britt Janyk overtook Allison Forsyth of Nanaimo to win the women's giant slalom Tuesday in Whistler on the final day of women's competition at the Pontiac GMC Canadian National Championships. Forsyth tied with Quebec racer Genivieve Simard for second spot. Anna Prchal, also of Quebec, was third. Results and further information will be posted as available.

Cochrane, Osborne Paradis top-10 in Whistler



Trying to catch national team member Jeff Hume (Whistler) who was third in 1:47.75, BC Ski Team athletes Sean Cochrane (Prince George) and Manuel Osborne Paradis (Whistler) were eight one hundredths apart in Monday's men's downhill finishing sixth and seventh respectively in 1:48.07 and 1:48.16. Erik Guay, Canada's new king of speed won the Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships downhill Monday on Whistler Mountain, stopping the clock in 1 minute, 45.86 seconds, 4-tenths ahead of Calgary's Darin McBeath.

Risler Wins Canadian Junior Title



Whistler native Christina Risler of the National Development Team took second place Monday in the women's downhill at the Pontiac GMC Canadian National Championships. Risler, 19, by virtue of taking second place in 1:54.58 captured the Canadian Junior Title. Teammate Britt Janyk was sixth in 1:55.94. Quebec's Anne-Marie Lefrancois left the competition chasing a vapour trail of speed to win the Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships women's downhill Monday in Whistler. Lefrancois, 24, of Charlesbourg, Que, burned up the Dave Murray Downhill course in 1 minute, 52.01 seconds.

Forsyth Slips to Third, Janyk Scoops Silver



In a surprising twist of events, Quebec's Genivieve Simard and Nanaimo's Allison Forsyth swapped places after the second run giving Simard the win in 1:28.25 in Friday's Pontiac GMC Cup National Championships Women's Slalom. After the first run Forsyth was 1st and Simard 3rd. However, at the end of the day, Forsyth had to settle for third place in 1:29.13 behind Whistler's Britt Janyk who fought hard and held on to second place in a two-run combined time of 1:29.09. Complete results will be posted as they become available. Race organizers hope to get a downhill training run Saturday, weather permitting. A men's and women's super g will be run in the event of a downhill training cancellation tomorrow.
