Bennett Crowned 2002 Pontiac GMC Cup Champion

Speed demon Brian Bennett mounted a comeback this season which culminated Wednesday with a triumphant return and the overall 2002 Pontiac GMC Cup Championship. Bennett who hails from Quesnel has been racing with the Whistler FIS program this season. “Winning the title was my main goal this season,” said Bennett, 21, who returned to the slopes this season after struggling the previous winter due to injuries sustained in a car accident and a bout with mononucleosis. “I was a little more relaxed this year and enjoyed racing. I was putting too much pressure on myself in the past.” Overall winners take home $5,000 and now have a chance to join the Canadian Junior National Ski Team.
