McDougall Silver in Women's Downhill



Prince George's Sean Cochrane, coming off a hamstring injury that occurred in St. Moritz in January, captured the men's downhill win Thursday at Apex. Cochrane took the gold clocking 1:17.68. Aaron Civitarese of Trail, a four-year BC team member was second in 1:18.03 and Brian Bennett of Quesnel, held onto his lead of the overall Pontiac GMC Cup points with third spot in 1:18.07.

“I was definitely happy with the win,” said Cochrane, “I cleaned up some of the mistakes that I made earlier in the week and that seemed to work.” Civitarese, the overall Pontiac GMC Cup champion in 2001 was not pleased with his second place finish. “It was a tough day for me, the light was flat and I made a lot of mistakes,” Civitarese said. “I just tried to hang on.” Whistler racer Jamie Finlayson was fifth in 1:18.55.

BC Development Teamer Stephanie McDougall took second spot in Thursday's women's downhill at Apex finishing in 1:22.91. While it wasn't fast enough to catch Alberta's Yota Lambropoulos who won by a solid margin clocking 1:20.12 it was a solid second place finish for the Whistler racer.

Other Development team athletes in the top-10 were Kayla Benbow of Whistler in 1:23.52 in fifth and Alexandra McLean of Whistler in 1:24.15 in seventh.

Lusti Wins Apex Downhill



Invermere's Christina Lustenberger picked up top spot in the women's downhill at Apex Tuesday. Lustenberger took the gold medal in one minute 20.87 seconds.

“I made a couple of mistakes but I just let my skis run,” said Lustenberger, 17, with her first career win on the Pontiac GMC Cup circuit. I need to work on a better line up top.” In the men's downhill, Jamie Finlayson of Whistler clocked one minute 18.44 seconds on the 2.1 kilometer Juniper course at Apex Mountain. Brian Bennett of Quesnel, was a very close second in 1:18.46.
