Mount Seymour Ski Club Hosts annual Teck Enquist Slalom
The historic Teck Enquist Slalom was back at Mount Seymour the weekend of Feb 26/27 after a one-year absence. The event features two-run slaloms each day with the top male and female finishers over the two days earning the coveted Enquist Slalom Trophies, awarded since 1953.
Saturday opened with ideal, hard snow conditions on the Unicorn run, while conditions Sunday softened with mixed overnight precipitation. The varying conditions provided a challenge to the U16/U19/Masters athletes from BC Alpine’s Coast Zone.
With first place finishes in the U16 category each day, Vanessa Young (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) and Thomas Legg (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) were the recipients of the women’s and men’s trophies.

On February 26 and 27, 2022 at Grouse Mountain, the Grouse Tyee Ski Club hosted 158 U12 athletes in the 2022 Tyee Cup. Racers from six ski clubs including Cypress Ski Club, Mt Seymour Ski Club, Whistler Mountain Ski Club, Mount Washington Ski Club, Sasquatch Ski Club, and Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club gathered to race in the kinder kombi, giant slalom, tall-gate slalom, and stubbie slalom events. Day one, we ran GS in the morning, and Kombi in the afternoon. Day two, we had stubbie in the morning and tall gates slalom in the afternoon.
On day one of the weekend, the kids had great sunny conditions! Day two conditions were poor with heavy snow and some rain. The snow was very wet, but racers persevered through the weather conditions! All the kids were in great spirits and excited on day one. With the heavy snow and some rain on Day 2, the kids found the Stubbie race challenging with the slushy conditions. The weather cleared up nicely in the afternoon of Day 2 for the tall gates slalom run and finished the day off strong.
TYEE CUP RESULTS Men: The Tyee Cup went to Lucas Yu of the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club. Runners up for the men were Eric Krastev (2nd) and Eames Kim (3rd), both from the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club
Women: The Tyee Cup went to Charlotte Severin of the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club. Runners up for the women were Nikita Ciesla (2nd) and Katinka Hansen (3rd), both from the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club.

Athletes persevered through heavy rain, snow, limited visibility and challenging hill conditions during two days of FIS BC Cup racing on Grouse Mountain, February 28 and March 1, 2022. Whistler Mountain Ski Club hosted the BC Alpine Speed camp February 24 to 26, welcoming ski racing athletes to Whistler from all around the province. While the locals were less happy with the recent lack of precipitation, the ski racers were thrilled to experience world class conditions as they developed speed ski skills on a safe but challenging track.
Athletes from the Okanagan Ski Team, the Kootenay Zone Team, Vancouver Ski Team, Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club, Cypress Ski Club and the local Whistler Mountain Ski Club came together for what was, for some, their first experience on downhill skis and in a true downhill set. The camp was a U16/FIS event and was a great opportunity to train speed after an unfortunate event took Kimberly off the season schedule. This opportunity helped prepare FIS racers for the upcoming FIS BC Cup Parsons Memorial Speed Series event that will run from March 3 to 8 on Whistler’s Dave Murray National Training Centre.
Thank you to all the volunteers, coaches, BC Alpine, the Dave Murray National Training Centre (DMNTC), and Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Operations. The racers able to take advantage of fantastic weather as well as the work done for the Canadian Para Alpine Ski Team 2022 Olympic preparation camp. The WMSC is privileged to have Dale Stevens working tirelessly for all the athletes that come to train at the DMNTC.
The BC Alpine Board of Directors has updated the Covid-19 vaccine policy for the 2021-2022 ski racing season.
This update reflects recent PHO orders.
Effective today, proof of vaccination is no longer required for participation in BC Alpine sanctioned events below FIS level, unless it is a requirement from the host mountain.
The event organizers have released a useful (and nice looking!) Event Guide, with information on the event, its history and what’s in store at Panorama. This will keep you in tune with the three BC skiers who will be competing in the event.
