Amazing photo finish for Thompson and Simmerling at Ski Cross World Cup

ANOTHER 1-2 FINISH FOR ALPINE CANADA!

VAL THORENS, FRANCE (January 9, 2015) – Canada’s dynamic ski cross duo has done it again.

Marielle Thompson of Whistler, BC and Georgia Simmerling of Vancouver, BC finished 1st and 2nd in Friday’s Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup stop in Val Thornes, France.

The teammates – and fierce competitors – had a thrilling photo finish to decide the 1st and 2nd place finishes, with Thompson coming out ahead by a fingertip of her Level glove. France’s Alizee Baron finished in 3rd.

It was Thompson’s second-straight World Cup win, having finished atop the podium in Nakiska, AB in early December. Simmerling also finished 2nd in that race.

Canada Winter Games 2015 – Building Champions and Inspiring Dreams

From February 13 – March 1, 2015, Prince George will play host to 2,400 athletes, 1,000 coaches and officials, up to 4,500 volunteers, hundreds of media, and thousands of visitors. This event will be the largest multi-sport and cultural event to ever be held in Prince George!

From February 13^th to 20^th the Alpine Ski and Ski Cross events will take place at Purden and Tabor Mountains. Seven male and seven female U16 alpine athletes from each province will compete in super-G, GS, slalom and ski cross events. Two male and two female para-alpine athletes from each province will compete in GS and slalom.

Some notable alumni of past Canada Winter Games are Rob Boyd and Alison Forsyth. In the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Robin Femy, a 2007 Canada Games alumnus, captured a gold medal as a guide for Mac Marcoux in the men's GS, a bronze medal in the super-G, and another bronze in the downhill, for visually impaired athletes.

Solid result from BC Team’s Sam Mulligan on last day of Panorama Nor-Am

PANORAMA MOUNTAIN VILLAGE (Dec. 18, 2014) – BC Ski Team rookie Sam Mulligan (Grouse Tyee) wrapped up his first Nor-Am series in fine form! Wearing bib 103, Mulligan earned a second run in Friday's GS by finishing 54th in the first run. Second time down the course was even faster, landing him in 35th place overall as the best U18 in the competition. The top BC athlete in Thursday's women's giant slalom was Stephanie Gartner (Fernie Alpine Ski Team) in 18th position.

Swette wins GS, Fleckenstein soars into top-10 at Panorama Nor-Am SC!

PANORAMA MOUNTAIN VILLAGE (Dec. 17, 2014) – Tuesday's super-G results were added to Wednesday's single slalom run times, to complete the Nor-Am super combined event for the ladies at Panorama. Stefanie Fleckenstein (WMSC) was on fire again today and showed her strength as a multi-discipline athlete. Sitting 17th after yesterday's super-G she skied the slalom run of her life, coming 6th, for an overall super combined 8th place finish.

"It was really exciting getting back into the speed races this year," said Fleckenstein after another stellar competition. "My coaches had me confident and prepared for whatever came at me. I want to thank the awesome volunteers here in Pano. The races ran smoothly and quickly."

BC had another reason to be proud today. On the men's side former BC Team racer Ford Swette (CAST/WMSC) threw down two solid giant slalom runs to take the win.

Stef Fleckenstein in the points again; third U18 and 17th overall in Pano NA

PANORAMA MOUNTAIN VILLAGE (Dec. 16, 2014) – For the second day in a row Stef Fleckenstein scored valuable Nor-Am points, this time finishing 17th in a tough field of international competitors.

Fleckenstein, 17, is off to a strong start in her first season with the BC Ski Team. The Whistler Mountain Ski Club racer started in the 64th position, crossing the line with the top 20 time, which also gave her a bronze medal in the U18 category.

The men were also in action today, in a tough slalom that saw only one-third of the field finish. Ryley Seger, first-year BC Ski Team member, finished in 30th place, as well as fourth in the U18 class.
