The North Zone was thrilled to welcome 160+ athletes and their families from across the province to the U14 Provincials hosted by Purden Mountain and the Prince George Ski Club. Nineteen clubs from the four zones were represented in the 3-day race event held March 15th-17th.
After a great day of training on Thursday, things kicked into a higher gear on Friday with the slalom competitiom. 80 Men and 86 Women skied the Pipe run under sunny skies.
Saturday was GS racing, followed by an athlete banquet, awards presentation and many prize giveaways. Teams for the dual slalom event (created from Friday's slalom results) were also announced at the banquet. Racers and coaches from the various clubs across the province had a chance to meet and find out which former or present BC/Canada ski team member they would be representing with their team.
Sunday's Team Dual Slalom was great fun for the 32 mixed gender, mixed club teams of 5-6 skiers. Smiles and sunshine prevailed as racers skied the red and blue course at least once each, with some teams advancing through the ladder and making up to 10 trips down the course.
All in all, it was a great weekend of racing with many happy athletes, coaches, and organizers!

March 18, 2019 – Whitewater Ski Team Nancy Greene Season Comes to a Close
A cold Sunday morning gave way to a brilliant sunny afternoon, as the Whitewater Ski Team celebrated the end of another season with their much-heralded Nancy Greene Festival. Teams from Red Mountain, Phoenix, and Salmo traveled to Nelson to compete one last time for 2019.
The format is recognizable in some ways, with slalom and GS races taking place on the Silver King side of the mountain. However, in true Whitewater fashion, the team brought its own original take to the slopes on Sunday with a series of off-kilter, fun competitions for the Nancy Greene Ski League athletes. The Long Jump, Speed trap, and Ski-Cross events were all big hits for the racers, as were the hot dogs and refreshments served outside the base lodge.
Head Coach Dylan Henderson took to the podium to deliver his end of season remarks, thanking Whitewater’s new head of Nancy Greene program Chris Swetland for a fantastic year.
A select group of young athletes also got their first taste of individual times and podium glory, perched proudly atop the snow blocks to receive their hardware.
It was another season of progressive coaching, athlete development, and good sportsmanship for the Whitewater Ski Team—an organization that continues to find new ways to improve and move forward. Here’s to 2020!

SNOWSPORTS CLUB RISK MANAGEMENT MANUAL
Canadian Alpine Responsibility Code(s)
The Canadian Alpine Responsibility Code governs all users of ski area/resort facilities. This includes all members of the CSA. This code is endorsed and used by Canada West Ski Areas Association (CWSAA); Ontario Ski Resorts Association (OSRA); and Atlantic Ski Areas Association (ASAA). Ski Areas in Quebec (ASSQ) have government of Quebec legislation that basically embraces the same principles. The Code functions as “Rules of the Road” and must be followed. CSA members must review the following code with their members and we encourage you to post the code prominently in club facilities.
Ski Club Responsibilities
CSA member clubs (750+) and their members are, for the most part, guests of the ski area/resort. All CSA members are required to follow the rules and regulations of the Alpine Responsibility Code, as well as any added rules; regulations; and/or policies set by the host ski area/resort governing the clubs’ access and use of facilities.

On March 2nd and 3rd young racers from throughout northern BC tore up the slopes at Purden Ski Hill at the annual Teck North Zone race hosted by the Prince George Ski Club. The GS and slalom event welcomed about 50 racers, ages 10 to 16, from Prince George, Quesnel and Smithers.
“With about 50 kids coming from Smithers, Quesnel and Prince George for Purden’s TECK North Zone race, there was a lot of organizing by our club’s volunteers to make this event a success again this year,” said Eduard Hausot, President of the Prince George Ski Club. “As always, the most rewarding part is seeing these kids from across the north strengthening their own peer networks, as well as learning how to manage the mountain of personal responsibility that comes with being a young downhill ski racer.”
The Prince George Ski Club used this year’s Teck North Zone competition to serve as their “test event”, leading up to the Teck U14 Provincials. The club will host 160 U14 athletes from across the province March 15-17 at Purden Ski Village.
