Mount Norquay hosts FIS Slalom, Collombin and Wearmouth take home gold

In ladies' slalom, BC Team racer Antonia Wearmouth (Grouse) won Sunday’s race with teammate Stefanie Fleckenstein (WMSC) in 3rd. Saturday's slalom was won by Tyra Collimbin (Fernie Alpine Ski Team).

In Saturday's men's competition, CAST member Broderick Thompson (WMSC) was 2nd, with teammate Brodie Seger (WMSC) in 4th.
On Sunday, BC Team racer, Riley Seger (WMSC) was 2nd, followed by teammate Sam Mulligan (GrouseTyee) in 3rd.

Conditions at Norquay were grippy, the temperatures were close to freezing and visibility was good. There were 88 men and 54 ladies.

Get Creative – Enter BC Alpine’s First Annual Video Contest and Win Cash!

BC Alpine 2016 Video Contest

BC Alpine is proud to announce our first annual video contest. This is a great opportunity to showcase our exciting sport and culture. Participation is open to all BC Alpine members (athletes, coaches, families) working individually or as a team.

Submissions should be uploaded to Vimeo or YouTube, and a link emailed to videocontest@bcalpine.com. When uploading please name your video “BCAVC2016 – title of your video.”

Submissions will be judged by a panel of judges selected by BC Alpine. Prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries. Entry deadline is March 28th, 2016. 

Judging Criteria:

• Videos will be judged based on their ability to highlight the joys and thrills of ski racing in an engaging, creative, fun and inspiring way.
•  

Contest Details:

– Entry deadline is March 28th, 2016

– Maximum video length is FOUR minutes

– To guarantee no conflict with our existing sponsors, no advertisements or product placements are allowed to play before, during or after the video. This also means the video must NOT be monetized on the hosting site.

– Original content only. No copyrighted materials (music, images, etc.) may be used for this contest unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this contest. Written permission must be obtained, and provided to BC Alpine upon request, for all copyrighted materials. (Note there are many websites out there offering royalty-free music. This can be a good place to start.)

– You grant BC Alpine the right to post your video to our website, Facebook or other social media feeds and/or use it for promotional purposes at our sole discretion.

– Video intro and/or credits should highlight the title of the video, the ski club and the names of those who contributed to the making of the video

Whistler’s Fleckenstein & Smith on ladies’ DH podium at FIS season opener

Sweden’s Alexander Koell – winner of men's FIS downhill among strong international field of racers

(Nakiska, AB) – High winds marked the first FIS races of the 2015/16 Alberta Cup ski racing season. The previous two days of training were held in perfect conditions, but on Wednesday morning an approaching Chinook wind had DH panels laying flat on the snow on the upper track. After a brief delay, the jury changed the original program, allowing the men to complete a race first, followed by back to back ladies' races. The wind abated completely for the early men but did pick up again at the tail end of the field. Fortunately as the ladies ran, the gusts were fewer and the track held up very well

Alexander Koell (SWE) won the men’s first race followed by Ivan Kuznetsov (RUS) in 2nd and Matej Prielozny (SVK) in 3rd. BC Ski Team's Sam Mulligan (Grouse Tyee Ski Club) was the top Canadian in the race finishing 10th overall. The second men’s downhill started at 1:15PM but by that time the wind was starting to squall again at over 60km/hr. After a few racers ran, it was clear that the conditions were deteriorating and the jury decided to terminate the race after just 11 racers.

In the ladies race, it was Georgia Willinger (NZL) in top spot with Katie Fleckenstein (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) 2nd (TOP U18) and Emily Filed (CAN) in 3rd. DH #2 for the ladies was a little different mix in the standings with Katie Fleckenstein (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) moving into top spot followed by Michelle Rufener (SUI) 2nd and Gabrielle Smith (Whistler Mountain Ski Club) in 3rd.

16 BC athletes to attend Dec. U16 Rising Stars training camp in Sun Peaks

BC Alpine, in conjunction with Alberta Alpine and Alpine Canada Alpin, is pleased to announce the return of the Rising Stars U16 Project.

The concept is to get the top performers born in 2000 (based on the PRS) together with the same group from Alberta for a training camp.

This year’s Rising Stars camp held in Sun Peaks Dec 10^th to 13^th will be a dynamic camp with a focus on skills, variation, mileage and interaction with peers and peer coaches.
