The 8th Annual Mike and Manny Cowboy's camp kicked off in style, with a bluebird day on Whistler Blackcomb and fresh snow on the ground.
An exciting day for all of us, especially those who have never been to Whistler or even seen big mountains. In true Whistler fashion we took them straight to the top of the mountain to work on balance by skiing Spanky's Ladder and Couloir Extreme.
"This is my first time skiing powder!" exclaimed Dagmar D'Agostino from North Bay Ontario.
"I've never seen Mountains this big." said Liam from Poley Mountain, NB.
After the "Big Mountain" experience, we settled into the groove of slalom and slalom element training, working on line, platform and balance.

Elli Terwiel (Sun Peaks Alpine Club) has decided to retire from Alpine Ski Racing after a good year racing on the NCAA circuit. Elli won the EISA slalom championships, and was second in GS, and her University of Vermont team won the EISA Championships. Elli posted this retirement message after her final race:
“Today I retired from ski racing. I have spent the past 20 years of my life chasing crazy dreams, achieving some of them and having an AMAZING time in pursuit of them. I will always be a skier and I absolutely still love my sport, and that’s the way I would like to remember it. Today was the perfect example of why ski racing is amazing. A tight knit group of individuals were together in the bright sunshine on the top of the hill sending it as hard as we could to the bottom! The friendships gained through my ski racing will always be important to me and the experiences, both good and challenging, that I have experienced along the way have shaped who I am today. I wouldn't trade them for the world (well, most of them….).
"THANK YOU SO MUCH to every person who has supported me along the way. This wasn't just my own personal journey but that of my family and my small community as well. Thank you to everyone at Sun Peaks who came to the Elli Extravaganza's and to all the great coaches (on and off hill) that I have had all the way. To anyone who is considering putting their kids in a sport…or who has a kid in hot pursuit of athletic success, it’s worth it. I am a much better person for the experiences I gained through sport. I am more resilient, strong and motivated because of my years of training. I am excited for all the unknown things to come in my future. My favourite thing about skiing was the pursuit of technical perfection and how far I could push myself to succeed. I am looking forward to finding new goals to fight for! In the meantime, it’s time to hammer down on the engineering homework!”
We at BC Alpine sincerely thanks you, Elli, for the inspiring teammate and determined competitor you have been throughout your long and successful racing career. We wish you all great things on your new path in life, knowing our paths will cross again and again!

"Final race of the season just completed at Mt. Norquay. Now 6 members of the BCST are invited to the ACA try-out camp starting tomorrow. Stephanie Gartner, Stefanie Fleckinstein, Antonia Wearmouth, Sam Mulligan, Riley Seger, and Max Peiffer are in the gym testing tomorrow and on snow all week. Great athletes, great coaches, great support staff and awesome teamwork make this a very successful season regardless if anyone makes the national team this week. The rest of the team, Dominic Unterberger, Pat Carry, Cameron Alexander, Alix Wells and Mikayla Martin all have accomplished incredible things this season. I am extremely proud of this incredible group of people that make up the entire BC Ski Team!"
