The registration categories and costs are now available for the 2012/13 season.  Members who are going to be taking part in summer programs (including coaches) need to be registered in the BC Alpine Club Admin Database before their previous year commercial general liability coverage ends on July 1st.

With the E1/ E2 / K1 / K2 / J1 / J2 programs making way for the new U6 / U8 / U10 / U12 / U14 / U16 / U18 / U21 programs we've decided to reduce the complexity of registration by having categories that denote the level of competitor and allowing our database to separate them for later reports based upon their year of birth.  By doing this we have been able to turn 18 potential registration categories into just 6.

Three BC Athletes competing at Blue Mountain Ontario Ski Cross World Cup

Ian Deans of the Big White RacersThree BC athletes are currently competing as invitees to the National Ski Cross Team at the FIS World Cup event in Blue Mountain, Ontario due to their inspiring results in Copper Mountain on the 21st and 22nd of January.  As they are playing host nation to the event, the National Ski Cross Team was able to invite three additional racers to compete for Canada.  Those extra quota spots were filled based on Canadian top results from the Copper Mountain races and each day the same three names from BC showed up at the top of the list.

Ian Deans of the Big White Racers easily turned heads after he finished both days of competition at Copper Mountain in first place.  When asked about Ian, Big White Racers Program Director Trevor Haaheim said “He is an incredible athlete, role model and overall great guy!  I wish him all the best and the Big White Racers are very proud of everything he has done so far in Ski Cross.  We believe he has what it takes to be the next international superstar from Big White!”

Mathieu Leduc from the Mt Washington Ski Club finished in second place on day one and fifth overall on day two.  A hip injury in Aspen last year cut Mathieu’s Alpine FIS season short, but he decided to focus on Ski Cross this season and has been training in the sport since June.  If having top ten finishes in every one of the five races he’s entered hasn’t yet proved that he will be a contender, then being the second positioned Canadian in both races at Copper definitely should and is especially telling of things to come for this athlete!  Both he and his family are ecstatic about the invitation and his first World Cup appearance.

Robert Lepine from the Whistler Mountain Ski Club held on close as the third place Canadian on each day of racing at Copper.  Coach Drew Hetherington told us that “Robert is extremely excited to have another chance to show what he’s got at a World Cup Race and to prove to himself that he can qualify.  Last year Robbie placed 36th overall, just out of the qualifying range, but this year he’s not as nervous about the opportunity as it’s no longer his World Cup debut.  He is very happy at the opportunity to represent his province and his country at a World Cup, especially a World Cup held here in Canada!”
