Osborne Paradis Top-20 in Sunday River



Under partly cloudy skies and hard snow pack, Manuel Osborne Paradis skied to a 19th place finish in two minutes, 32.06 seconds. Osborne Paradis, of the BC Ski Team, started down the field in 57th. In this the first GS of the Sunday River, ME series, Julien Cousineau was the top Canadian in first place in 2:25.75 followed by a slew of American racers filling up the top-15 spots. Whistler's Scott Hume, starting 41st, crossed the line in 2:33.72 for 25th place. BC team's Robbie Dixon failed to finish his first run while former teammate, Sean Cochrane didn't start the race.
Both Christina Lustenberger and Danielle Poleschuk have recovered extremely well from their pre-Christmas mishaps and are racing in the women's Nor-Am races at Mont Garceau, Quebec. Christina Lustenberger placed 35th in 1:50.42 in the first women's GS Thursday. Danielle Poleschuk failed to finish the second run.

Just over two weeks until the first draw in the 2003 GMC Envoy Raffle. Ticket sales have been in full swing since late November with over 16,000 tickets in circulation around the Province. A reminder that club miniumum numbers must be sold this year. The early bird draw for a Descente jacket and pants is Monday January 20, 2003. BRYDON BACK ON TRACK FOR BORMIO SLALOM



Emily Brydon is ready to get back on course. Brydon, who crashed in downhill training at Lenzerheide, SUI on Dec. 20 was on a plane back to Europe on New Year's Eve to get prepared for a slalom race in Bormio, Italy on Sunday.

“I got checked over before I left Europe and everything is fine,” said Brydon, who suffered symptoms consistent with a concussion in the crash. “I feel good and I'm ready to get back racing.”

Janyk “Athlete of the Week”



Britt Janyk's rapid rise in the World Cup giant slalom standings has earned her the Alpine Canada Alpin Athlete of the Week Award.

Finishing just 2-100ths of a second off her first World Cup podium this week, Janyk collected 40 points for her 6th place result on Saturday in
Semmering, Austria. The result also moves her into 16th position as top Canadian in the World Cup giant slalom standings.

Janyk, 22, of Whistler, BC, won three Pontiac GMC Canadian titles last year and the overall Europa Cup giant slalom title. Her rise into the elite
gives Canada three racers in the top-30 start positions in each World Cup GS race. Allison Forsyth and Genevi
