Whistler B2B Camp Underway

The first B2B camp of the summer season got underway Sunday in Whistler (training on the Blackcomb glacier) as BC's best juvenile athletes have joined foces to train slalom and giant slalom alongside Canada's great national team members, coaches and alumni: Emily Brydon, Rob Boyd, Matt Kerr, Allison Forsyth, Dave Anderson, Britt Janyk, Scott Hume, Mike Janyk and Christina Risler. Under unbelievably hot conditions, 127 athletes, 24 club coaches and 10 guest coaches are working hard and from all reports working together to make this camp a very successful one. The camp runs throughout the week concluding July 28.

Mt. Hood, Oregon will again be a summer venue for BC Alpine's second B2B Camp. The famous summer terrain on the Palmer Snowfield glacier – at 8540 feet – is accessed by a high speed quad chairlift. The glacier is divided into two reas, a public lane, and course lanes reserved for training. BC Alpine recommends the terrain is suitable only for K2 and FIS athletes or strong K1 skiers. BC Alpine will arrange and coordinate accommodation, tickets, salt and provincial integration plan as well as assist with the dryland training.

BC Alpine Fitness CD Ready To Ship

Everything your club or coach will need to conduct the BC Alpine Fitness Tests is on this CD including national team, BCST
and BC Alpine field testing protocols as well as other dryland information. Also the new Fitness Database on this website is now available. The website (www.fitness.bcalpine.com) will host all the dryland information and will create reports that will compare clubs fitness levels. It tracks the conditioning status of your athletes and allows us to help you meet your targets and the norms of the provincial and national ski teams. The website will not, however, show individual names but will give the BC clubs the opportunity to measure up against other clubs. BC Alpine plans to recognize the “Best Performers” in the field tests (these names will be posted) while also recognizing the “Most Improved”. To order the BC Alpine Fitness CD simply click on the link and we will get the CD along with an invoice in the mail ASAP.

Whistler World Cup Decision Delayed

Newly appointed ACA president, Ken Read and the Canadian delegation were anxious to hear whether or not Whistler would be awarded the 2004 World Cup Finals. However, the FIS council delayed a decision until meetings in October in Zurich. Whistler is competing against Torino, Italy and Garmisch-Partenkerchen, Germany for the right to host those races.

Five races at spectacular Lake Louise will launch the 2002-2003 Alpine World Cup speed season into high gear for men and women, the International Ski Federation announced Thursday at its bi-annual congress in Portoroz, Slovenia.

The FIS calendar committee also approved Are, Sweden as the site of the 2007 World Alpine Championships. Serre Chevalier, France will host the 2003 World Junior Alpine Ski Championships, and Whistler was awarded the 2005 Snowboard World Championships.
