Video tutorials for BC Race entry available for Coaches and Race Secretaries

To better explain the process of our online race entry system I have created a couple of "How To" videos, one for the Coaches who will be entering the athletes, the other for the Race Secretaries who will be taking the output and loading it into SplitSecond.  Both are available on the Video Education page of our website as well as in this article below.

If there are any points I didn’t touch on or if there are any other walk throughs that may help out please let me know!

Message from Miele Cup Apex Gunbarrel DH / SG ROC Chair: Garry van Soest

Garry van Soest

Apex Miele Gunbarrel Downhill & SG ROC Chair

Miele Cup Apex Gunbarrel Down Hill & SG Feb 2 to 8

Now that you’ve seen the first speed event at Lake Louise how about brining your enthusiasm to volunteer at the event that all of our CAST members call the most important introductory speed event of their careers…the Miele Cup Apex Gunbarrel!!

The Gunbarrel is right here in the heart of British Columbia on a tried and ever improving track designed exactly for the needs of introducing real speed to our entry level FIS Athletes. In return for your passionate volunteerism the Gunbarrel ROC is proud to announce that for this season’s event we are offering accommodation for a good nights rest and unforgettable socializing opportunities everyday after the work day is done.

Please read Manual Osborne-Paradis reflections on the Gunbarrel.
Please find room in your busy schedule to give your time generously so more young ski racers can get the right stuff. Margaret Manton, Volunteer Coordinator, is standing by to receive your email and schedule your appearance. Margaret’s Email: margaretis@shaw.ca

Hi All,

Its that time again to help out the up and comers at the Apex Downhill. This is one of the only true downhills we have in Canada that is perfect for our Junior Program. The Gunbarrel has high speeds, great long turns and a nice downhill jump! Without this Downhill I wouldn’t have been able to build my speed skills at a young age and truly develop into the Speed skier that I am today. The Junior level is a very critical time to learn the basics of how to ski safe and fast. I was able to transfer what I learnt from my weeks at Apex into my technical skiing and it really helped my GS in ways that can’t be taught by just training technical events. It’s the true fundamentals of ski racing in canada. Without races like these we wouldn’t have stories to tell of the ‘Crazy Canucks’ and now the ‘Canadian Cowboys’.
To Manicure a true downhill course takes weeks of hard work from dedicated people. If you are at all interested in taking part or have kids in the program I think this would be a great opportunity to help our junior athletes in Canada become all they can be.

Registration Import feature back online just in time for national card deadline

Missing from the BC Alpine Club Administration Database this season has been the "Import" feature which allows those clubs with their own databases to export their data into ours with very little typing required.  Just in time for the Dec 1st National Competitor Card Registration deadline we have re-activated the feature.  It can be found under the "Club Registration" / "Import" section of the Club Administration Database.

There have been a few changes to the registration criteria this season, so expect to make a few minor adjustments to your file before uploading it.  Documentation can be found in the import section and any specific questions or problems should be sent to Keven Dubinsky – kevend@bcalpine.com directly.

Registration revamped again: Only FIS require separate Ski Cross registration

If you’re not the registrar for your club you should make sure that your registrar knows about this news article.  The latest, and expectantly the FINAL modification to our Ski Cross registration is official and it is.. well, it’s a doozy.

Except for FIS members, there is no longer a need to choose between “Alpine” and “Ski Cross” as it has been recently negotiated that all Alpine registered national members will have the ability to compete in Ski Cross events.

FIS members however still have to register using the multi-discipline selection as before.  This is required still as at the FIS level Ski Cross is still a Freestyle Ski discipline, not an Alpine discipline.

So to summarize it we have both good news and bad news:

Good news

  1. The number of potential registration categories just got cut down by almost 60%
  2. All national Alpine athletes can now also train and race Ski Cross with no additional cost
  3. All dual-discipline registered athletes have already been refunded to the single discipline cost in the BC Alpine Registration Database

Bad news

  1. The registration methodology has changed AGAIN.
  2. Some of your members may require a refund if they have already paid you for dual discipline
  3. The BC Alpine Registration Database import system was rebuilt for the new registration method and now has to be rebuilt again for the change.  It may not be in place by the December 1 registration deadline this season

Any questions/concerns/etc please contact Keven Dubinsky @ BC Alpine.
